Introduction

Following the invitation from Sunlight Labs to host an event related to increase the use of government data, Tetherless World Constellation will host a Semantic Hackathon during Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of December 2009. You can participate helping us or bringing your own idea. A hackathon is a meeting where people works developing some interesting applications in a short period of time. In this case, we plan to create semantic applications and link data-gov datasets to the Linked Data. This will be a great experience that can help you understand the principles behind The Semantic Web. You don't need to know details about the Semantic Web, but it would be good to read a little bit about it.

Date and Location

The event will be hosted at the Winslow Building (next to the Approach) on the second floor. This hackathon will be done on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th from 10:00AM to 5:00PM but if you can't make it all that long, just come here any time between those hours.

What do I need to bring?

Just a laptop, we will provide Internet connection, hosts and food and beverages. Even if you cannot attend physically, you can help us online.

Can I develop my own ideas?

Sure! Any idea that makes use of data-gov RDF data is welcome! You can help us with linking data-gov or you can create your own application.

Registration

IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE. To do that, just send an email to Dominic Difranzo (difrad[@]rpi.edu) or Alvaro Graves (gravea3[@]rpi.edu) indicating your name and your skills. Depending upon the people involved we may prepare a small workshop and tutorials. Even though it is not necessary to know anything about Semantic Web, it would be a good thing.

Current attendants are

  • Dominic Difranzo
  • Tim Lebo
  • Alvaro Graves
  • William Barnhill
