Description:

This demo shows the US Postal Service's financial history by: (i) plotting net income (income - expenses), budget authority (money allocated by Congress) and outlays (actual expenses) on a timeline (ranging from 1976 to 2008), and (ii) annotating the timeline with historical events, dynamically loaded from an RSS feed of articles on this wiki. This demo uses SPARQL to combine data from several sources: datasets 401 and 402, which show the budget authority (money allocated by Congress) and outlays (actual expenses) by various government accounts from 1962 to 2014, respectively (values from the present to 2014 are projected), as well as USPS data from outside data.gov on USPS's total income and expenses over the years. This visualization shows net income (income - expenses), aggregated budget authority and aggregated outlays for the US Postal Service. For more information about the Outley, see another demo - the detailed account information of "Postal Service".
